Vodickova Powers In Beijing, Mendez Rallies In Cozumel: Weekend Wrap-up

Published May 21st, 2015 by Devteam

Athletic nomad Radka Vodickova powered to a second place finish at the Beijing International Triathlon on Sunday, earning her 5th podium appearance in the 2015 season. The Human Interest Group congratulates Vodickova for her win as well as XTERRA champ Mauricio Mendez for his 11th place finish at the IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel also held this weekend.

“Last weekend, Radka celebrated a third-place at IRONMAN 70.3 Sunshine Coast in Australia. Today, she claims second place in Beijing among a tough and fast group of pro women. Radka is on a roll finding great racing opportunities around the world, debunking the idea that an elite triathlete’s season and exposure are limited to just a few big races. We’ll cheer her on when she competes at 70.3 Port Macquarie next month,” says Michael Cardoza, director of The Human Interest Group.

“We’re also proud of Mau for his performance at the IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel. It was a good test of his current fitness. He’ll have a nice amount of time to dial in on a few key areas leading up to the XTERRA World Championships in Maui where he finished 5th last year.”

Every minute mattered in the fast Olympic-distance Beijing International Triathlon. Vodickova exited the water in fifth place among the pro women at 18:34. She advanced on the bike with the third fastest time in her division at 1:06:35 and completed the race with a 40:04 run. Vodickova’s speed throughout the race pushed her to second place.

While his summer has focused on off-road triathlon training, Mendez took advantage of the timing and location of IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel to gain more experience with the long-distance course. Mendez finished 6th overall in the swim with a time of 22:34 followed by a bike time of 2:14:22 and run of 1:20:32. In a competitive race, Mendez rallied his energy to place 11th overall and as the fastest athlete from Mexico.
