Six Of Triathlon’s Best Compete For Ironman 70.3 World Championship Title
(Boulder, CO) Six elite triathletes represented by The Human Interest Group, a leading sports marketing agency and business development firm focused on world-class endurance athletes, continue their remarkable seasons at this weekend’s IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Mooloolaba, Australia
Professional triathletes Craig Alexander, Team Wurtele’s Heather and Trevor, Radka Vodičková, Tim Don, and Sam Appleton will seek to add the world championship title to their existing lists of 2016 victories.
“While anything can, and does, happen on race day, we’re thrilled that our crew of six is arriving at the World Championships at the top of their game. Each athlete has their own distinct talent that gives them an edge in an incredibly impressive field for both men and women this year,” said Michael Cardoza, director for The Human Interest Group.
“Heather has delivered strong, practically dominating, performances every time she raced this year, while Crowie is winning 70.3s thanks to years of experience. Both Tim and Rads have been lightning fast on their runs, and you cannot ignore the bike power of Appo and Trevor. The championship has all of the ingredients for an exciting, down-to-the-wire race. We’re also a bit bummed for Jake (Montgomery) as he had to pull out of this event due to injury”
The Human Interest Group congratulates the following athletes whose consistent commitment to high-quality training and racing this year places them in contention for a world title.
Heather Wurtele: Currently ranked the top IRONMAN 70.3 female pro athlete, Wurtele returns to the world championship race after finishing second in 2015. Since then, the Canadian continued her reign as the IRONMAN 70.3 North American champion and ran to victory at four long-distance triathlons, including IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside and Challenge Iceland.
Radka Vodičková: In the seven long-distance triathlons that she has competed in this year, Vodičková has earned a spot on the podium for every race. A stand-out effort delivered Vodičková a victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Putrajaya.
Craig “Crowie” Alexander: Having won the 70.3 world champion title twice before, Alexander returns after a two-year hiatus. The record-breaking IRONMAN world champion bested competitive – and younger – fields earlier this year at IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton, Subic Bay, and Putrajaya to take first place.
Sam “Appo” Appleton: The Aussie native joins the start line bolstered by strong performances in five IRONMAN 70.3 races, including a first place victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Buenos Aires and top three at 70.3 Chattanooga and Boulder.
Tim Don: The 3-time Olympian and ITU World Champion brings his formidable running talent and race experience. Don’s speed drove him across the finish lines first this year at the IRONMAN 70.3 South American Championship in Palmas, Brazil, and IRONMAN 70.3 Monterrey. He rounded out the podium at the 70.3 World Championships in 2014.
Trevor Wurtele: Wurtele arrives in Mooloolaba with power gleaned from podium performances at IRONMAN 70.3 Monterrey, Mont-Tremblant, and Victoria. Wurtele finished 3rd at IRONMAN Canada in July.
The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship is the first stop on the season’s champion circuit for several athletes. Heather and Trevor Wurtele and Tim Don will race the iconic IRONMAN World Championship on the Big Island, Hawaii in October, followed by the Island House Invitational Triathlon.
The athletes are part of HIG’s Professional Triathlon global roster that also includes IRONMAN Champion Rachel Joyce, XTERRA World Champion Lesley Paterson, All-American IRONMAN champ Ben Hoffman, Aussie favorite Paul “Barny” Matthews, IRONMAN 70.3 phenom Jake Montgomery, and young XTERRA prodigy Mauricio Mendez.
