The Human Interest Group congratulates our clients who closed out championship seasons with solid performances this weekend: Czech 70.3 pro Radka Vodičková took 3rd place at the Challenge Laguna Phuket triathlon, while Canada’s Team Wurtele raced IRONMAN Cozumel with IRONMAN champion Heather claiming 4th place.

Radka Vodičková

Despite the tough long-distance course and competitive field at this year’s Challenge Laguna Phuket in Thailand, Vodičková stayed in the lead pack throughout the race. Her times were 23:39 for the swim, 2:33:28 bike, and run 1:31:11 run.

After exiting the swim at 48:58 in 8th place, Heather joined the lead pack on the bike and ultimately had the third fastest bike time of 5:04:08 in her division. Running under the scorching sun of Cozumel, Mexico, Heather edged closer to the top three runners with an average pace of 7:47/mile and with a run time of a 3:23:58, she took fourth place. Heather’s final race time was 9:21:52.

Trevor Wurtele had a promising start. He left the water in 9th place (46:57) and continued to move towards the lead with the fifth-fastest split (5:28:01) on the bike. Unfortunately, Trevor had to bow out of the race mid-way through the run as he was just mentally and physically smashed from a very long season of racing.

“All three of these athletes had extremely long seasons,” said Michael Cardoza, director of the Human Interest Group. “The Wurteles started their season back in February, so it’s quite impressive to still be racing this hard on the last weekend of November. Radka started the year with an injury but she still knocked out ten competitive races and eight podium finishes this year. They all earned a few weeks off during this off-season.”
