Don And Wurtele Triumphant At North American Pro Championships
BOULDER, CO— Tim Don and Heather Wurtele executed brilliant performances this past weekend in St George, Utah to take down an incredibly stacked field of half distance specialists at the 2015 Ironman 70.3 North American Pro Championships.
Patience was a key to success on the hot windless day in Southern Utah, where both winners took control of the lead on the back half of the hilly run course.
“Both athletes finished on the podium here in 2014 and ironically seem to race well when they’re on the same start line” said Michael Cardoza of The Human Interest Group, which manages Don and Wurtele. They both won Monterey 70.3 last year as well as a pair of bronze medals at the World Championships in Mt Tremblant. St George is the premiere half ironman race of the year in North America now – so this is a huge win for Heather and Tim”
Tim Don is off to a stellar year thus far, posting wins at Monterrey 70.3, the Latin American 70.3 Champs in Brasilia, and now the North American Champs in Utah. The Englishman is focusing on the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii as his primary goal in 2015 but will surely be considered one of the favorites at the 70.3 World Champs in Austria.
Heather Wurtele is also showing that she is one of the highest performing 70.3 athletes on the circuit today with an impressive stack of wins the past few years as well as two 2015 runner up finishes at the Challenge Dubai and Oceanside 70.3. Wurtele demonstrated her great form in St George as she prepares to take on the North American (full) Ironman championships in Texas on May 15.
“Overall, St George was an amazing day for our clients, especially with such a high class field,” said an enthusiastic Cardoza, “obviously with Heather and Tim taking the win but also with the other performances of Ben Hoffman (5th), Rachel Joyce (6th) and Trevor Wurtele (7th).”
