Craig Alexander and Leon Griffin take 1st and 2nd at the Ironman Geelong 70.3
Defending Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander opened his 2010 season with a win at the Ironman 70.3 Geelong (Australia) in just 3:53:15. 2008 winner and former World Champion in the Duathlon, Leon Griffin, took 2nd place about 1:20 behind Alexander. Both athletes were happy with their performances despite the season being early and their form at a self proclaimed (70%). Alexander and Griffin both displayed some new sponsors logos for 2010. Griff is part of the newly formed Pearl Izumi triathlon team and Crowie has new partnerships with All3Sports.com, Scape sunscreen, Body Science nutrition, and a few others..
From the Sydney Morning Herald:
Griffin admired Alexander's performance. "Today was always going to come down to a running race," he said. "Craig showed why he's the world champion, he ran away with ease."
Alexander was similarly complimentary of Griffin. "Griff's on the same sort of upswing as me," Alexander said. "He had a great race. I think he's very under-rated. He's a great athlete."
Alexander and Griffin both train in Boulder, Colorado during the US Tri season
