Athletes from the Professional Triathlon crew took over half of the podium spots at this weekend’s IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant: Team Wurtele’s Heather and Trevor (CAN) each took 2nd place among the pro women and men, while Lauren Barnett (USA) ran her way t0 third place at the Canadian race.

Trevor’s Mont-Tremblant finish is his third 2nd place victory at an IRONMAN 70.3 race this year, while Heather’s podium spot joins her four 1st place finishes, including the IRONMAN 70.3 North American Championship. Barnett’s performance comes after winning IRONMAN 70.3 Raleigh three weeks ago.

Also racing this weekend, Paul “Barny” Matthews (AUS) came in 6th among the pro men in Mont-Tremblant with a final time of 4:01:42. Competing at the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene in Idaho, Ben Hoffman (USA) took a solid 4th place.

“Congrats to Heather, Trevor, and Lauren for elite performances at Mont-Tremblant. Tough-as-nails field on a hot day and they still delivered podium finishes,” said the Human Interest Group Director Michael Cardoza.

“Great to see all three stick with their winning combinations of steady pacing throughout the race to build up when they needed the speed and power the most. It could be easy to go too hard too soon when racing against Lionel Sanders and Holly Lawrence, but Trevor, Heather, and Lauren kept calm and powered through.”

“Congrats too to Barny and Ben for staying in the hunt and finishing strong.”

After exiting the water with a 24:58 time, Trevor edged his way on the bike to the lead pack that attempted to keep up with eventual winner Lionel Sanders. Trevor gained power through the bike to finish with the 4th fastest time of 2:08:26, and he then called upon the speed of his legs for a run that secured his second-place finish. Trevor ended Mont-Tremblant with a run time of 1:15:24 and final overall time of 3:52:24.

Heather Wurtele & Lauren Barnett Take 2nd & 3rd at IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant

Demonstrating a strategy that consistently has delivered her to the podium this year, Heather Wurtele built her race day performance first with a solid swim (25:46) and then dominating bike (2:21:25) split, the second fastest among the pro women. On her run, Wurtele steadily pursued 1st place winner Holly Lawrence, ending up with a 1:25:53 split. Wurtele finished the race with a final time of 4:17:08.

Barnett too progressively became faster during the race, passing her competitors to take third place. She exited the water with a 27:36 time and powered up her legs to hit 2:25:44 on the bike. It was the run, however, where Barnett dialed up speed for a time of 1:25:14. Barnett clocked a final time of 4:22:26, about five minutes behind Wurtele.

In July, Team Wurtele competes for victories on two different continents: Trevor will seek his second win at IRONMAN Canada, and Heather takes on Challenge Iceland. Barnett is scheduled to race IRONMAN 70.3 Racine.
