Long-distance Champ Radka Vodičková Closes Season With 10th Major Podium Of Year: Weekend Wrap-up

Capping one of her most accomplished race seasons yet, Olympian and long-distance champion Radka Vodickova (CZE) stood on the podium for the tenth time at major events this year after finishing third at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon.

In the thirteen triathlons Vodickova raced in 2016, she took first place twice, was a runner-up five times, and finished third three times.

Human Interest Group Director Michael Cardoza congratulated Vodičková on her success this weekend and the overall season. “Rads showed this year why she is one of the top pros on the circuit today, starting with 70.3 Geelong in February and ending with the Laguna triathlon nine months later. It’s not easy to remain in top form physically and mentally, especially when traveling around the world and competing almost every other weekend, but Radka did it in a classy and professional way.

“Kudos to Rads for closing out the year in the same way she began, on the podium. I also want to wish Radka and Brad (Kahlefeldt) the best of luck for their upcoming wedding in just under a month!”

With only a couple of seconds separating the pro women exiting the swim of the Olympic distance race, Vodickova started strong on the bike leg and stayed in contention for the podium with a split of 1:25:32. Clocking the second fastest time for the 12K run (50:15), Vodickova crossed the finish line with a time of 2:43:22, less than a minute behind second place. Vodikova returned to the Laguna Phuket Triathlon podium after winning the triathlon in 2009, 2011, and 2012.

With the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, Vodickova wraps up another successful season of competing in both Olympic and long-distance triathlons. Vodickova took first places at IRONMAN 70.3 Putrajaya and IRONMAN 70.3 Hefei, and second places at IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay, Vietnam, and Asia Championships in Cebu plus Challenge Malaysia and the Husky Long Course Triathlon. The performance at the Laguna Phuket Triathlon adds to her other third place finishes at IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong and Challenge Kanchanaburi. At the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, Vodickova finished in 9th place.
