At 25 years old, Patrick Meek could be considered a veteran in the sport of speedskating – if “veteran” is taken to mean universally respected and revered by his fledgling teammates, with a sharp list of accomplishments to boot. Currently a member of both the US World Cup Team and the US National Speedskating Team, Patrick’s powerful legs propel him around the track faster than you can say “Go USA!” A native of St. Louis, Missouri, this humble, helpful Midwesterner ventured to Utah at the age of 17, where he’s lived and trained at the US Olympic Oval with unerring devotion ever since.
No matter that this determination often equates to life on a shoestring budget – as far as Patrick is concerned, sharp skates and clean ice are the only essentials. One of the premier distance skaters in the world, Patrick is laser-focused on the 5000 meter, 10,000 meter and team pursuit events. He’s also inspired to grow his beloved sport, which enjoys a frenzied following in many European countries, working hard to increase recognition and awareness for speedskating within the United States.
